Religious Education Musings
by Rev. Ellie Duhamel, Director of Religious Education

June/July 2007

As a child, I spent part of each summer on Cape Cod and learned to time my days around the coming in and going out of the tide. I liked the rhythm of that, and have continued to like to sense a rhythm to tasks and time. I like the rhythm of weeks and seasons.

Here it is, June, and time to be wrapping up this church year. What a full and busy year this has been. There have been so many highlights...the children in the Christmas service, the Special Friends program, these past few weeks of celebrating Earth Mysteries... Our teachers are wonderful, our RE Committee is vibrant and great and our children are above average! The Religious Education program of this church is a truly wonderful corner of the world and I am glad and grateful to be here.

I have just been given the results of the job performance evaluation surveys done by the personnel committee earlier this year. I thank everybody who responded. As I look forward to the coming year I will work to continue with those aspects of my work that have been good and to improve in areas that need work. Again, “thank you” to all who took time and caring in responding to the questionnaire. From you I receive...
I am especially excited about working to enrich the experience of both our Senior Youth Group and our Junior Youth. I hope many folk of all ages will offer their ideas within the next few weeks so that they can be included as we begin making plans.

The children will be planting a garden in the front of the church on June 3. With luck and work, the things they plant will be ready for harvest in the fall. As we move from spring into summer this year, I am already aware of “thought seeds” beginning to germinate within me for next year’s Religious Education programs. I like this. It is part of the rhythm of my particular life.

I wish for you, as the days and weeks pass, a sense of rhythm, a feeling that your living is in sync with the heartbeat of the universe.

Love,
