Religious Education for Children

Church School Program for 2011-2012

Social Action

The children's social action focus for this year is Live and Let Live Farm in Chichester, a rescue for horses and other animals. During the church year the children will raise funds to support the farm's mission.  Volunteer opportunities are also available at the farm for families and individuals.  An orientation session is required to volunteer.  www.liveandletlivefarm.org.

Preschool (3 and 4 year olds) - Celebrating Me And My World

This program provides preschoolers with opportunities to grow in their sense of trust and caring and to develop a sense of connectedness with all life.

Kindergarten & Grade 1 - Picture Book UU

This program explores UU identity and values through wonderful children’s stories like Old Turtle, Henry Builds a Cabin, and Owen & Mzee.

Grade 2 & 3 - Love Will Guide Us

This program emphasizes love as the guiding force in Unitarian Universalist faith, while addressing children's theological questions in a simple, yet honest way.

Grade 4 & 5 - Toolbox of Faith

Each session of this program uses a tool as a metaphor for an important quality of our faith such as reflection (symbolized by a mirror), flexibility (duct tape), and justice (a flashlight).

Grade 6 & 7 - Neighboring Faiths

This year the 6th and 7th graders are introduced to the faith traditions and practices of other religious groups in our community.  Participation in a variety of worship services is a highlight of this program.

Coming of Age Program (Grades 8 & 9)

This class was created to celebrate the transition from childhood to youth, the time when people “come of age.” Our UU Coming of Age youth will spend time learning and worshiping together as they explore their own beliefs along with those of other UUs and other faiths. At the completion of the program, each youth will write their own statement of beliefs, which will be shared in a worship service that they create.

High School Youth Group

This group meets every other month. Meetings include discussion, worship, socializing and service. The youth participate in a service trip in the spring or early summer.
